Välkommen Matthieu!

GMOK hälsar Matthieu Bührer välkommen till klubben! Matthieu som fyller 20 nästa år kommer från Fribourgtrakten i Schweiz och har bestämt sig för att representera GMOKs färger i internationella tävlingar de kommande åren.

Nedan följer en kortare intervju på engelska med huvudpersonen själv

Warm welcome to the club! Please tell us a little bit more about who you are?

At the beginning of this autumn, I started studying biology at the University of Fribourg in Switzerland, the city where I come from. I train most of the time there from home in a forest called Moncor, doing my easy jogs and some workouts there.

It was in 2020 that I seriously started running regularly, often with my parents. Since then, my mother has been my coach and it’s working well. Currently, I do orienteering and running (cross-country, trail running and road running), which are two sports that I would like to practise in parallel for as long as possible. Apart from running and orienteering, I am a big football fan, more specifically a fan of Liverpool FC.

För de som inte känner till Matthieu sedan tidigare så har han vunnit multipla guld på tidigare JVM och är dessutom en mycket stark löpare med PB på 10K på 29.30. Som en notering så visade även nyförvärvet bland herr coacherna, Joakim Eliasson, direkt sin uppskattning för valet av fotbollsklubb. 

What was the reason for you to look for a Scandinavian club?

I had been thinking about joining a Scandinavian club for a few years. Discovering what orienteering is like up there makes me really want to join one, and I know that to improve and become a better orienteer, I will need to spend time there and train hard. This is especially true because the Junior World Championships are being held in Sweden next year, which is a major goal for me, especially since the injury I suffered this summer prevented me from participating in the 2025 JWOC.

What are your main goals for next year?

Next year, my main goal is, of course, the 2026 JWOC, which will be held in Karlskrona in early July. At the end of this year, I hope to qualify for the U20 European Cross Country Championships in Portugal in early December. Alongside all this, I plan to run a 10km road race before the start of the season, in February or March.

Det känns riktigt bra att fortsätta att stärka upp kärnan av den nya unga och ambitiösa gruppen löpare med ytterligare fler starka namn. Jag tror att Matthieu’s ödmjuka inställning kommer att vara ett grymt tillskott till gruppen och vi ser fram emot att arbeta tillsammans för att hjälpa honom att nå sina mål.
